You are carrying a day that has not arrived

Today is fine and you are living in a worse one that has not happened. It is early. The light is doing its slow climb and nothing in this room is wrong. Somewhere ahead of you there is a day you are already paying for, and it may never send a bill at all.
The cool side of the pillow, abandoned an hour ago. A tap running until it runs properly cold. Somebody's car door, twice, then an engine, then nothing. The ordinary sounds of a morning that is asking absolutely nothing of you yet.
You have been rehearsing a future in order to be ready for it, and the rehearsal is the thing draining you. Here is the mechanism, and it is not a character flaw: the body cannot tell an imagined threat from a present one, so every run-through spends real stress on a hypothetical, at full price, and it does it as many times as you run it. Most of what you rehearse never happens. The small share that does arrives to somebody already tired from the practice, which is the exact opposite of prepared.
Ask what preparation actually looks like. It is a plan, written once, for the thing you can name. That is finite and it takes about ten minutes. What you have been doing instead is not preparation, it is simulation, and simulation has no stopping condition, which is why it can eat a week and leave nothing behind. If there is a real step, take it and be done. If there is not, then the worry is not readiness, it is just a tax on a Tuesday you were otherwise going to enjoy.
So today you write one line about what is actually true right now. Not the forecast, not the branch where it goes badly. Today, as it stands. Then tomorrow goes back into tomorrow, where it belongs, to be dealt with by somebody who has slept and who will know more than you do right now.
The day in front of you is genuinely fine. You are allowed to have it. That is not optimism, it is just an accurate reading of a Friday morning.
