Terms of Use
Last updated: July 22, 2026
Welcome to KeepCalm.org, a program of KEEP CALM Inc., a California nonprofit. These terms are the agreement between you and KEEP CALM Inc. when you read our library, create a poster or song, shop, donate, or talk with the Calm Companion. We wrote them to be read, so they are in plain language.
1. What KeepCalm.org is
KeepCalm.org offers free, evidence-informed self-help articles in many languages, a poster maker built on the public-domain "KEEP CALM AND" format, AI-generated songs that accompany posters, a public poster gallery, a shop where designs can be printed on physical products, an AI conversation tool called the Calm Companion, and ways to donate. Proceeds from the shop and donations fund our free programs.
2. Not medical advice, not a crisis service
Everything here is educational self-help. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, therapy, or treatment, and it is not a substitute for care from a licensed professional. The Calm Companion is a wellness conversation tool, not a therapist and not a person.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please reach for live help now: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, 24/7), text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line), or call 911 in immediate danger. Outside the US, our Get Help page lists verified helplines.
3. Who may use the service
The site is a general-audience library. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The Calm Companion is for adults only: you must be 18 or older to use it, and it asks your age before it will talk with you. Purchases and donations require the legal capacity to enter a contract.
4. Accounts
Almost everything works without an account. If you create one, keep your sign-in method to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using it. You can delete your account at any time from your account page or by emailing us.
When you create an account we offer a short set of optional questions about you, including where you are, your age range, your gender, your ethnicity, what your life looks like right now, and the music you like. Answering is entirely up to you, every question can be skipped, and we use what you share to personalize what we show you here and what we send you. We never sell it and never hand it to advertisers. You can change or clear any of it on your account page at any time. The Privacy Policy explains it in full.
5. Content you create
When you write a phrase for a poster, or describe a game for us to build, you assign that phrase or description, and the poster, song and game built from it, to KEEP CALM Inc. under our User Content License so the poster can be displayed, shared, and offered on products whose proceeds fund free help. Everything you submit must follow the Community Guidelines.
All submissions pass through layered safety screening before they are shared or sold. The screening fails closed: if a check cannot run, the content waits for human review rather than publishing. We may decline, hold, or remove any submission at our discretion, and we remove content in response to valid intellectual-property complaints under our Copyright & IP Takedown Policy.
6. AI-generated posters and songs
Songs and some artwork on KeepCalm.org are generated with licensed AI tools. Please understand what that means for anything you download, share, or buy:
- No exclusivity. AI systems can produce similar or even identical output for different people. A song or design you receive is yours to enjoy under these terms, but we do not promise it is unique in the world, and we do not sell exclusive rights to it.
- Limited copyright. Under current US Copyright Office policy, purely AI-generated material may not be protected by copyright at all. We make no representation that any AI-generated song or artwork is copyrighted or enforceable against copying.
- Where songs live. Songs play inside the KeepCalm.org experience, its share links, and products connected to them. KEEP CALM Inc. may distribute songs made here to music streaming platforms and other outlets, and may register and enforce trademarks in phrases created here. Any revenue funds the nonprofit's free programs. Buying a poster or product does not grant you the right to distribute a song yourself.
7. The shop
Products are produced and shipped on demand by our print-on-demand partner network (currently Printify and its print providers). KEEP CALM Inc. offers the designs; the shop checkout states prices, shipping, and the return process for each product. Because items are printed to order, returns are generally limited to damaged, defective, or misprinted items, as described at checkout. Proceeds fund our free programs.
8. Donations
Donations and memberships are processed by Givebutter, our donation platform. Your payment details go to the processor, not to us. Donations are voluntary and, except where required by law or stated otherwise, not refundable. KEEP CALM Inc. will provide receipts and acknowledgments consistent with US nonprofit rules.
9. Our name, and a phrase that belongs to everyone
The 1939 "KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON" poster, its phrase, and its format are in the public domain, and we claim no exclusive rights in them. What identifies us is the KeepCalm.org name, our logo, and our site design; please do not use those in a way that suggests we made or endorsed something we did not. The articles, translations, and original artwork on this site belong to KEEP CALM Inc. or its licensors; personal, non-commercial sharing with attribution is welcome.
10. Acceptable use
Use the service kindly and lawfully. Do not attempt to break, overload, scrape at scale, or probe the security of the service, and do not use it to harm anyone. The full content rules live in the Community Guidelines, which are part of these terms.
11. Disclaimers and limits on liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. KEEP CALM Inc. is a small nonprofit: to the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of 50 US dollars or the amount you paid us for the item giving rise to the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Some places do not allow certain limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. If we ever have a dispute
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts located in California will have exclusive jurisdiction, except that either of us may use small-claims court where eligible, and you may have mandatory rights in your home jurisdiction that remain unaffected. Please email us first: nearly everything can be fixed with a conversation.
13. Changes and contact
We may update these terms as the service grows; the date at the top always reflects the current version, and meaningful changes will be noted on this page. Questions go to Contact@KeepCalm.org.
Keep Calm offers free educational self-help tools. This is not medical advice, diagnosis, or therapy, and it is not a substitute for professional care.
