Community Guidelines
Last updated: July 8, 2026
Every poster made here can end up in a public gallery seen by anyone: a kid, a grandparent, someone having the hardest day of their year. So the rule of the house is simple. Everything published on KeepCalm.org should make a stranger's day a little calmer, a little kinder, or a little lighter.
What belongs here
Your own words, in any of our languages: encouragement, humor that punches at nobody, small practical wisdom, love for the people and places that steady you. "Drink some water." "Call your mom." "Plant something." That energy.
What we do not publish
- Cruelty of any kind: hate, slurs, harassment, bullying, or anything that mocks or targets a person or group.
- Harm: violence, threats, weapons, crime, or content promoting self-harm. If your words tell us you are hurting, we will answer with help, not a rejection notice; see the note below.
- Adult content: sexual content of any kind. The gallery is for everyone.
- Substances: promotion of drugs or alcohol.
- Politics and public figures: campaign lines, political statements, and the names of real people. The calm here is for everyone, whoever they vote for.
- Ads and schemes: promotion, spam, brand plugs, money-making pitches, or asking people to contact, follow, or pay anyone.
- Personal information: phone numbers, addresses, handles, links, emails, yours or anyone else's. Posters are forever; personal info should not be.
- Other people's property: trademarks, brand names, slogans, song lyrics, franchise names and characters, or a real person's name or likeness. This matters double for products: phrases headed to the shop pass an extra intellectual-property screen, and a phrase that names a brand or celebrity will not become merchandise. Details in our User Content License and Copyright & IP Takedown Policy.
- Anything illegal where you are or where we are.
If you are struggling right now
Sometimes people type something into the poster box that is really a signal of pain. That is human, and it is welcome here, just not as a poster. You will see a gentle response pointing to real help: call or text 988, text HOME to 741741, or visit Get Help for helplines around the world. Nothing you write in that moment is stored or published.
How moderation works
Every phrase passes layered checks: curated multilingual blocklists, style and personal-information rules, automated safety review, and human review for anything uncertain. The system fails closed: if a check cannot run, your phrase waits for a person instead of publishing. Nothing is published unless it affirmatively passes. Phrases removed by a moderator stay blocked. Merch-bound phrases face the extra intellectual-property screen described above.
Enforcement and appeals
Content that breaks these guidelines is declined or removed; accounts that repeatedly try are closed. If you think we got one wrong, and sometimes we will, email Contact@KeepCalm.org with the phrase or poster link, and a human will look again. To report something already published, use the same address.
These guidelines are part of our Terms of Use. Thank you for keeping this a calm corner of the internet.
