Intention

You already passed the line you drew

You are standing in a life that a younger version of you would have called arriving. That is a strange sentence to read at this hour and it is also true. The window is gray and ordinary. There is coffee. Nothing about the room announces itself, and that is precisely the point of what comes next.

A radiator ticking as it warms. Keys where you left them. The particular flatness of early light on a plain wall. Somewhere below, a door, then footsteps, then nothing. The day has not started asking for anything yet.

You set a line once and told yourself that crossing it would feel like something. You crossed it. It felt like a Tuesday. The reason it did is not ingratitude, and calling it that has never helped anyone: the mind resets its baseline to whatever is currently true, quickly and completely, which means the moment a wanted thing arrives it stops registering as wanted and starts registering as normal. Every goal you have ever hit was absorbed within about a fortnight. That is the machinery working exactly as designed, and it is why the line keeps moving no matter how fast you run at it.

Try the question from the other end. Instead of asking what is still missing, ask what you have that you once actively wanted, and let the honest answer land without an argument attached to it. The list is longer than the other one and you almost never read it. That is not because it is untrue, it is because a satisfied want goes quiet and an unsatisfied one keeps talking, so the loudest voice in your head is a permanently biased sample. Give the quiet ones a hearing and the day changes weight.

So today you name one. Out loud or on paper, one thing you have right now that you once described to somebody as the goal. Not a gratitude list, not a practice, not a habit to keep up. One, today, said plainly, because the point is to notice it once rather than to schedule noticing forever.

You are living in somebody's answered wish and it happens to be your own. That does not mean stop wanting things. It means the wanting was never the part that was missing.
