Intention

You are the one who was always going to do this

There is something in your life waiting for somebody to come and sort it out. You know which one. It has been waiting a while and the waiting has been comfortable in the way that unfinished things sometimes are. The morning is clear. Nobody is on their way, and that turns out to be better news than it sounds.

A stack of post by the door with one envelope on top that matters. Steam going sideways off a cup in the light. Somewhere above, water moving in a pipe as the building wakes. A coat on a hook that has not been worn in a fortnight.

Some part of you has been holding out for a rescue. Not consciously, and not as a plan, but as a quiet assumption that the situation will eventually be handled by circumstances or by somebody with more standing than you. The reason that assumption is expensive is that it converts a solvable problem into a waiting room, and waiting rooms have no clock. Every month spent in one looks identical to the last, which is precisely why you can lose a year in there without ever deciding to.

Run the numbers on who is actually available. Nobody else has your information, your stake, or your reasons, and nobody else is going to wake up tomorrow with this at the front of their mind. That sounds bleak for about four seconds and then it turns into the most useful fact you will read today, because it means the thing is not stuck, it is simply unstarted, and unstarted is a condition you can change before lunch. Self-reliance is not a personality. It is what is left when you stop waiting.

So today the first step happens and it is yours. Not the whole thing and not a plan for the whole thing. The first real move, made by you, this afternoon, on the item you have been hoping somebody else would notice.

Nobody is coming, and you were always the one who could do this anyway. That is not a burden being handed to you. It is a key you have been holding the whole time.
