Today nobody coming, but da day still yours. Dat one sentence can hit you two different ways, depending on wat you do wit da next hour. Get light stretching out on da floor. Da building making its small kine sounds. Dis right here da raw stuff, and it no short of nothing.

One book wit one receipt stuck inside for mark da page. Da kettle starting for get all noisy in da middle. Da birds outside all busy about absolutely nothing. One chair dat done take your shape after couple years sitting in it.

You done learn for read one empty day like it's some kine judgment against you. Dat kine thinking hurting you, and it not just mean, it wrong, which mean you can fix it, no need just tough it out. Being by yourself and being lonely, dey sound da same quiet, but dey mean two completely different things. So da feeling come without one label, and you da one who put da label on it, out of habit. If you keep putting da hard label, one regular free afternoon start for cost you something it never even had inside. Da hours not da problem. Da sentence you put on top of da hours, dat's da problem.

Check um against your own life, your own proof. Get hours you spend by yourself dat you would never trade, walking someplace, making something, reading late into da night, and dey had da same shape as da hours dat ached inside you. Da difference was never how many people was in da room, was whether you had choose it or not. So da fix not company, da fix is choosing, and choosing you can do right now, no cost nobody nothing. One afternoon you pick for yourself is one different thing from one afternoon dat just happen to you, even if da clock cannot tell da difference between dem.

So today, take one hour and spend um on something you would be stoked for do wit one friend. Da good coffee, da long walk, dat movie you always saying you gonna watch. Do um on purpose, like one real plan, not just for kill time until somebody call you up.

Dat hour gonna feel like yours, cuz um gonna be yours. Dat's da whole trick, and it stay strong through every empty afternoon dat come after.
