Get one clear surface in front of me. Only one, but um clear, and I can see da whole ting. I going keep dis one surface clear, and I not going turn um into one project about da entire room, cuz dass exactly how every previous version of dis wen end. One surface, held. Dass one standard I can actually meet on one ordinary Tuesday.

Da light land different on one empty table. Get room fo one elbow, one cup, and da ting I actually stay hea fo do. Notting on top um stay asking me one question or reminding me about someting I nevah handle yet. Da wood get one grain to um dat I nevah see fo one long while. My shoulders wen notice befo I wen.

Da clutter nevah was really about da clutter. Was every small decision I wen postpone, stacked up in one place wea I had fo look at um. Every object on dat table was one open loop, and open loops no sit quiet. Dey run in da background and dey charge rent. I was paying attention to dat pile all day long and nevah once wen look at um on purpose, and dass da mos expensive way get fo own anyting. Notting on um was urgent. All of um was loud. Every postponed decision gotta get stored somewea, and I was storing mine inside da room I work in.

Clearing one surface, dat not tidying. Dass closing ten tiny decisions all at once, and my head stay measurably mo quiet fo every single one of dem. My environment, dat not da backdrop to how I tink, dass part of da machinery I stay tinking wit. I was trying fo fix my focus by pushing mo hard on my focus, wen da mo cheap intervention was sitting on da table in front of me da whole time. Way mo easy fo change da room den da mind, and da room change da mind anyway. I no can tink clear inside one space dat stay asking me twenty questions at one time, and no amount of discipline fix dat.

So I going set one timer fo ten minutes and I going clear one surface. Not da room. Not one system, not one method, not one weekend project. One surface, and wen da timer go off I stop, even if um not pau, cuz da version of dis dat come one whole aftahnoon, dass da version I nevah start again. Stopping on time, dass da part dat make um repeatable.

Ten minutes wen buy me one place fo tink. Dass one of da bettah trades anybody get, and um stay available again tomorrow.
